1st Grade Reading Success

What are the characteristics a teacher of elementary LKG/UKG or 1st grade should have to be a Good Class Teacher. Also tell us your experience to solve the different problems faced with these younger aged kids and How to solve it.

My daughter is in 1st grade and the class is divided in reading groups (A,B,C,D,E). Sometimes the kids movefrom group to group. What is the objective of reading groups?

Do you have to go through kindergarten or if your child is old enough, can they go to 1st grade w/out going to kindergarten?

I will be teaching 1st grade next school term. I am looking for ideas that can be stored in an individual plastic bag or shoe box.

My child’s new 1st grade teacher is a fresh-out-of-college teacher. My child’s end-of-year assessment test showed him as being 16th in the class. He is really smart but he has a problem with paying attention so I think he did not do his best on the test. (I think he was not challenged enough in Kindergarten.) Anyway, my husband thinks he may have been put into the slower-learner class being that he has a less experienced teacher. Do you think that is the case? He is a lot more advanced than other kids his age and I’m afraid that if he is not challenged he will have behavior problems again.

The school we attended has a combined Kindergarten and 1st grade. It was not a good experience for my son. I went along with it as did other parents because the principal assured us it would work out well. So much for trusting a principal. I just found out just recently the teacher was not even certified to teach Kindergarten . I am livid! We work with him at home with reading and other basic skills, but I have been told that Kindergarten is an important part of the education experience and I feel badly that my son was cheated out of that. Is there anything I can do to help given him a better outlook toward school and learning?
