Assessment: What Topic Should I Do For 1st Grade?
I’m in an assessment class for early childhood education and haven’t been in a classroom yet. I have a huge project where I have to create an assessment for a topic in an age group. I chose 1st grade and just was wondering what are some topics / themes that are covered in 1st grade that you could suggest for me to make my assessment on? I do have to actually give this assessment to 2 children in first grade.
I would suggest doing something simple, either math or science.
A math assessment could be on simple addition or subtraction (with one digit numbers adding up to twenty).
A science assessment could be on the states of matter, parts of a flower, or magnets.
The best thing to do is to look up your states education standards. You can go the the Department of Education website and search for the standards. They will tell you what is taught in first grade in your state. Another possibility is to contact a local teacher where you would like to volunteer and give the assessment. If you work with him or her the input will be direct and help you in the long run.
